Kirstenbosch Summer Concert: Hugh Masekela.

Every year, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens has a summer sunset concert series in their outdoor amphitheater. About a month ago, Hugh Masekela was one of the last performers, and it was perfect for my first experience!

Setting up.

 The concerts generally start at 5:30, and the gates open at 4:00. However, it is best to get there by 3:30 if you want a good spot on the grass! The views of Cape Town and Devil’s Peak are spectacular.

Concert begins.

 What to bring: A picnic blanket to sit on, a blanket or jacket to cover up with (if it gets cold), a pick nick basket with some yummy treats, drinks (wine/alcohol is permitted), umbrella for sun or rain protection.

We had a great time listening to one of South Africa’s greatest jazz artists, one who is known around the world. Hugh Masekela knows how to get the crowd dancing! By the end of the concert, the entire crowd was on its feet. Here are some other pictures of the concert.

I can’t believe I haven’t gone to the concert series sooner! Can’t wait until next year!
